A lot of my time in the “Lab” (read: Kitchen) lately has been spent working on a line of yummy lip balms to add to my line. I know there are easy-peasy pre-made versions that I could melt down and pour into tubes, but that’s not how this Sugared Beauty chica rolls. I take a lot of pride in making my products from scratch, and I get a lot of joy from experimenting with raw ingredients until I find the perfect combination that you won’t find anywhere else.
Not that it isn’t tricky sometimes.
With lip balms, I needed an ingredient that was hard enough to hold together the other, softer, more moisturizing elements, without being so tough that it would resist a smooth glide along the lips. While cocoa butter and coconut oil are solids at room temperature, they melt quickly when they come into contact with the skin, and many-a tube of lip balm went awry because they would turn to a melty, albeit delicious, mess on my lips.
So I began working with beeswax, a healthy alternative to petroleum-based additives found in some other lip-wear. This stuff may be healthy, but it is very persnickety! It’s been tough to find the right amount of beeswax to make it just right.
After batches and batches and batches of bombed balm, the recipe has been tweaked to perfection, and I’ll soon be adding two delicious flavors to my line: Dark Chocolate Truffle and Mint Chocolate Chip.
And because I love treating my Sugared Beauty fans to fun things: every order between now and May 1 will get a free Mint Chocolate Chip lip treat with their order! Spread the word! Everyone can get in on this special!
