Shop Update: Lancaster Artwalk and a New Website!

Exciting things are happening in Sugared Beauty land!

Construction has begun on Sugared Beauty’s bright, shiny new website, thanks to Brother Office and StartupNation’s generous small business grant.  Stay tuned for a tentative launch date coming soon!  Woohoo!

Earlier this month I set up shop at the Lancaster Flea and Craft Market in Lancaster, PA.  It coincided with the super fun Lancaster Art Walk and was a wonderful weekend of creativity and community in Lancaster city.
The Candy Factory
It was Sugared Beauty’s first introduction to Lancaster, and I felt welcomed and loved sharing the space with such amazing and creative people.

Sugared Beauty

All the freshly made beauty goodies!

In other news, Sugared Beauty is now a retail location at The Shoppes on Main in Mount Joy.  Locals and visitors can score freshly made beauty goodies there (and save on shipping!  Tada!)

I’ve also set up an easy way to sign up for friendly, non-spammy news and updates.  I plan to send out updates about once a month, and I may throw in a secret coupon code or special offer in there once in a while, too.

Did I just whet your appetite?  Join the fun here!

So that’s a bit of what’s been going on over here, but enough about me.

What’s new with you?

New at the Shop: Etsy Direct Checkout – An Alternative to PayPal!

I’m a fan of PayPal.

Even so, when Etsy sent me an email announcing that Sugared Beauty’s shop could now accept credit cards directly through Etsy, I was thrilled!

This means that you’ll have the option of checking out with a credit card without being directed away from Etsy to PayPal.  You won’t have to do it that way, but you may.  Hurray!  (Oh, the rhyming!) *hand to forehead*

Here’s how it will look:

Once you’ve added your Sugared Beauty goodies into your cart, click the top button under “How You’ll Pay”.  The screen shot deleted the card logos, but you’ll see the different credit card logos next to the selection.

Click “Continue” to move to the Shipping Address page:
Once you’ve selected the address you’d like to use, move on to the next page, where you’ll enter your Credit Card information.  If you are an Etsy seller or have used Direct Checkout before, you may already have a card on file.  This will most likely be displayed as an option.
Click “Continue” and you’ll be taken to an Order Summary page.
Once you’re ready, click “Submit Order” and voila!  Your Sugared Beauty order is complete.  Thank you!  I’ll get an email that you’d like me to make you some fresh, wonderful skin care, and I’ll hop to it.

PayPal will continue to be a safe and secure way to check out with Etsy.  But I’m all for giving you all choices, and now you have one more!  (You also have a few more choices when it comes to products, too!)

To celebrate this new, easy way to check out, enter coupon code DIRECT10 for 10% off all of your orders through April 14th!  Use it as many times as you like (and you can check out how ever you choose!)

Introducing: Sugared Beauty *Raw*

A few days ago I ran out of face cream.  You may recall my attempts a while back at making body butters, and I must admit that success in this area has continued to evade me.   While I use my own products almost exclusively, moisturizer is the one thing I just haven’t been able to master.

It was late, my face was starting to feel tight, and in that moment I turned to something I should have considered long ago:

Sugared Beauty’s raw ingredients.

I grabbed a bit of grapeseed oil and organic argan oil off the shelf of would-be lotions and creams and smoothed a few drops of both all over my face.  And you know what?

I loved it.

Grapeseed oil, natural face moisturizer

Cold-Pressed Grapeseed Oil at Sugared Beauty

Grapeseed oil is an amazing eye makeup remover!  It also absorbs nicely into my skin and doesn’t feel greasy.

Organic Argan Oil at Sugared Beauty

And what can I say about Argan oil? Light, beautiful, organic Argan oil.

Just a few drops’ll do ya, and I’ve already noticed a difference on my pesky smile lines.

It can also be used as a hair-serum to combat fly-aways and frizziness.

Check out this great article for some terrific info on the benefits of Organic Argan Oil.  I’d started to compile a post myself, but this one really takes the cake.

In honor of this discovery, I’ve added both of these raw ingredients to my shop.  Oh yes, my friends, you can now purchase organic, cold-pressed, the real-deal Argan Oil at Sugared Beauty.

Sugared Beauty Raw is my line of pure, raw, honest-to-goodness ingredients.   I’ll probably be adding a few more delicious items to the line in the next couple of weeks or so, so stay tuned!  Have a suggestion?  Let me know.

News! The Brother Small Business Grant Program

Well, my friends, I have some news!

Yesterday, Brother and StartupNation announced the winners of their 2012 Small Business Grant Program, a $25,000 award to be divided evenly among five small businesses who “submit the most original and creative business plan.”

And Sugared Beauty is one of the recipients!

I’m thrilled and honored to have been chosen among the five businesses, and believe you me, I’m excited to put the money to good use!  I plan to invest in a new website complete with a bright, shiny (and secure!) shopping cart and upgrade my product packaging.  These are two big-ticket items that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I’m so grateful to be able to do them now.

In the meantime, please continue to shop for your favorite Sugared Beauty goodies at my Etsy shop .  I’ll be sure to keep it active until every last bit of code is written and live on the new site.  And you know you can always find me here!

Many (many!) thanks to Brother and StartupNation for this generous program.  Look forward to some exciting upgrades to Sugared Beauty in the next few months!

There’s a New Cleanser in Town!

So…it’s been a busy few weeks.

This time of year seems to be the perfect time to introduce new products.  Last month came the arrival of my new Moisturizing Body Washes, in three of the shop’s favorite flavors: Sugared Lemonade, Lavender Cupcake and Refreshmint.

This month, I’m so happy to bring you the newest addition to the Happy Face family:

I love all the feedback you give me, and while the scrub version of Happy Face continues to be one of my best-sellers, I understand that most of us don’t necessarily want (or need!) to exfoliate every day.

And thus: Happy Face now comes in a foaming gel.

It’s designed to work in tandem with the scrub cleanser, to give your face time to repair itself between exfoliations.  It’s packed with organic extra-virgin olive oil (the same stuff you cook with) so it’s very moisturizing as it cleanses.

“But Sarah, I have oily skin.  Can I use an olive oil based cleanser?” The answer is a resounding yes.  This is made with olive, coconut and jojoba oil, but it’s not oily.  Not all oils are created equal, and these oils will not clog pores and cause breakouts.  The saponification process eliminates any oily residue and instead offers a gently foaming, moisturizing cleanser.

Offered for a very limited time at $12.15 USD, 10% off the regular price!

Want to try before you buy?  Just ask.  I’ll send you a free sample with any order.

Cheers!    ~Sarah

Free Samples for Presidents’ Day!

*Shouting into a megaphone in the middle of the town square*

“Samples!  Who…Wants…Samples!”

Gosh, can you imagine?

Try All Three Flavors of Sugared Beauty's New Body Wash

But seriously: I know how I like to shop for beauty products, which is to say that I like to try before I buy.  I’m a tester, and I like to know I’ll love something before I commit to buying the full size.

I imagine you may be similar?

This weekend is a great time to stock up on the Sugared Beauty products you already know you love, and every product order over $25 will get three deluxe samples of my brand new body washes, one of each flavor: Sugared Lemonade, Refreshmint and Lavender Cupcake.  Try all three, and find out which is your favorite!

Happy Presidents’ Day!  Or: Happy Great-Excuse-to-Have-a-Special-Day!  (But I am very thankful for our president.  I know I couldn’t do his job.)

Bruno Mars, Yellow Pants and Lemonade: Friday Finds Volume 5

It’s Friday, the sun is bright, and I’m feeling cheery!

Allow me to share a few of the lovely discoveries I made this week:

Bruno Mars: Doo Wops and Hooligans

Wait, Sarah.  I thought you said you made these discoveries this week.

Why yes, yes I did.  I realize now that this album came out in 2010.  I also realize how out of sync this means I am with pop culture.  Does it help that recognized a few of the songs?  Aye.

Better late than never, I’m really enjoying this album…even as I type!

Doo-Wops & Hooligans (Deluxe Version) - Bruno Mars

Ann Taylor Yellow Pants!

In Curvy fit, too!

These cropped jeans are so happy and flattering that I can’t help but smiling when I see them.

I’ve been so attracted to yellow clothes lately, perhaps as a way to cope with this cold weather.

Give me bright happy colors!  I want to wear them!

These particular pants are an online exclusive, so if you want ’em, grab ’em.

Speaking of summer, how about a tall glass of lemonade, for your skin?

Introducing: Sugared Lemonade Moisturizing Body Wash

I’m in love with these new shower gels, fresh in the Sugared Beauty shop.  They’re the perfect complement to their sugar scrub counterparts, and they make your skin soooo clean and soft.

My favorite features:

The Lather. I’m a lather girl, and these gels are loaded with coconut oil soap, which is has one of the highest lather factors.

The Smell. Scented with essential oil and not fragrance or perfume, they offer pure, aromatherapy without being irritating.

The Organic Ingredients.  I love knowing that I’m only putting the purest stuff on my skin, free from anything artificial.  This is the real deal.

Winter Beauty Tips – Friday Finds Volume 4

Happy Face as Mask? Oh Yes.

Has it been a warm winter where you are?  I was starting to wonder if it would ever really feel like winter here in Pennsylvania, but this week I’ve finally felt it. Big time.

This Friday I want to help you find ways to brace your face for the remaining winter months!

Exfoliate Less

What? The girl who makes sugar scrubs says to use them less?!  Why yes…at least while the the winter lasts, that is.

Sugar scrubs help to naturally promote cell turn over, reduce fine lines and keep skin naturally smooth and soft, but too much scrubbing can also strip the skin’s natural defenses against the cold.

A little of your face’s natural oil isn’t always a bad thing, so reduce facial exfoliating to about once a week, and be sure you’re using a gentle exfoliant with fine granules.  Especially on the face.

Tone Down the Toner

Many natural toners don’t strip the skin like commercial toners can, but they can still be naturally drying (which is why I love them in the summer).  If you have naturally oily skin or still prefer to use a toner, look for one without any alcohol and always, always read the ingredients.  I love dabbing my T-zone with a little witch hazel spiked with lavender essential oil.

Moisturize More

Cold air can dry out skin like little else, so I use a heavier cream during the winter instead of my lighter summer cream.  I usually carry around a bit of moisturizer with me to dab on the areas that start to feel dry during the day.

When ever I make a batch of Sugared Beauty’s Cocoa Butter Lotion Bar, I always make an extra one (or two) for me.  It’s purse-sized, paraben-free and packed with organic raw cocoa butter and organic unrefined coconut oil, two powerful weapons against dryness (and crows feet!)

How do you adjust your skin care regime in the winter?

Name that Sugar Scrub! (Part II)

A couple of weeks ago I asked you, kind readers, to help me choose the name of my peppermint sugar scrub.  Both here and on Facebook you put on your thinking caps and came up with some amazing names!  Among the favorites were, Mintalicious, Excite Mint, Mint Julep,  Mint Explosion, Enjoy Mint, and Invigorating Mint.

After much deliberation, I settled on a name that seems to suit the scrub perfectly.

Meet…Refreshmint, the deliciously minty scrub that will be your ultimate fighter against nasty callouses and dry skin.

Now available in a 4 oz jar with a 12 oz jar on the way!

Oh…and in case you’re wondering who came up with the name, I’d like to thank the amazing Matthew M.F. Miller!  Yay!

Natural and Organic Makeup: Friday Finds Volume 3!

I love creating new, skin-loving beauty products.

But when it comes to makeup, I tip my mad-scientist cap (net? hat?) to the makeup brands who make up today’s Friday Finds post.  The women behind them have found a way to blend organic ingredients and beautiful colors, something I really admire!

If you’re looking for makeup that is as good for your skin as the skincare you use, then you are in for a treat!

Sweet Libertine Cosmetics

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Sweet Libertine’s creator, Sarah Waller, for the last year.  She and her husband are the masterminds behind the brand, creating mineral makeup in shades that once upon a time you’d only find in your dreams!

You’ll find endless colors with names that invite curiosity, smiles, and intrigue all made with natural mineral ingredients.  (And many of them are vegan!)  Oh and the prices?  Follow Sarah on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-date news on her frequent sales and specials.

My favorites are her eye shadows.  Check out Dragon Fly and Copper Penny, my two new faves.

Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques

Named after the talented woman behind the brand, I discovered Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques a few months ago when I went looking for a creme foundation that wasn’t full of questionable ingredients.
Thanks to Joy at Natural Joy Beauty, an online beauty store stocked full of products that pass Joy’s high standard for natural and organic brands, I was introduced to Lauren Brooke’s creme foundation.  My shade? Warm neutral 3.  My verdict?  LOVE.  You can also order samples from Joy so you can find your perfect shade without breaking the bank.I also keep Lauren Brooke’s botanical lip glosses stocked in my purse whenever I need a bit of color and shine.

Let me know if you try any of their products! Happy Friday!

**These opinions are my own. I did not receive any form of compensation for featuring anyone in this post.
